Teeth Whitening & Stain Removal
WHY TEETH WHITENING?
If your teeth are stained from general use and ageing, tooth decay, fillings or tartar build-up then they can become discoloured. Teeth whitening can be highly effective at enhancing people’s appearance, hence why it has become so widely used. It is now popular with both men and women of all ages that are looking to achieve a fresh smile through a short, non- invasive procedure.
At Silicon Dental Centre, we offer 3 different options to improve the appearance of your teeth, which can be carried out individually or in combination. After a consultation and assessment, we will help you choose the method that best suits your needs.
1. STAIN REMOVAL (AIRFLOW)
Air Flow treatment is designed to remove simple tooth staining caused by red wine, tea, coffee and smoking. Although this treatment is not a tooth whitening therapy, the Air Flow will significantly improve tooth brightness and give you a noticeably sparkling fresh healthy mouth in an instant. For great results we usually book this as an extra boost to your smile after a hygiene visit. Your teeth will feel fantastically smooth and fresh after AIRFLOW polishing.
What is Airflow polishing?
Airflow polishing is a cleaning treatment that uses a mixture of air, jet water and sodium bicarbonate to polish and clean your teeth dramatically during your visit. The treatment is not a chemical treatment and therefore there will be no risk to you of any irritation or chemical burns.
How does Airflow polishing work?
The Airflow polishing system dispenses a high pressured blast of water, bicarbonate and air through a small nozzle onto the surfaces of the stained teeth, removing staining and deposits. It is able to reach all surfaces of your teeth, giving you an overall really effective good clean, leaving you with clean, healthy teeth and gums
2. HOME WHITENING
Home whitening is safe and effective, using the highest quality whitening gel, so you can be assured of fantastic results and a brighter, whiter smile. After thorough de-scaling of the teeth, impressions of the teeth are taken by the dentist and high quality custom made bleaching trays are constructed by the laboratory. The trays are be delivered to us in 10 days. The accuracy of the tray fit and the quality of the whitening product are crucial to achieve good results. Whitening gels are available for either day use for 2 hours each day or alternatively night use. Your dentist will help you decide which method will suit you best. At you next appointment your dentist will check the fit of the whitening trays and will provide you with a whitening kit. Your dentist will ensure you understand how to use it correctly. It is a simple to use product that will need to be used daily at home and you will usually see great results in 10-14 days.
3. ZOOM! CHAIRSIDE WHITENING
This technique is carried out in the dental chair to give a whiter brighter smile in just over an hour. Many people are familiar with the technique and refer to it as laser whitening having seen it featured regularly on TV programmes likes Extreme Makeover and 10 Years Younger. The key benefit of this technique is that it is quick and can often make the teeth several shades lighter.
A special moisturiser is applied to the lips so they don’t become dry and and the lips are gently held away with a special retractor and cotton wool rolls. The gums and cheeks are protected with a special barrier, then whitening gel is applied to the teeth and a special light shines on the teeth for 15 minutes. This is repeated a number of times with repeat applications and usually takes an hour. Feel free bring in a selection of music to listen to during the procedure.
Zoom! Chairside Whitening can be combined with home whitening – either whiten at home immediately followed by Zoom Chairside or the other way round.
These 3 options, in combination, achieve by far the best whitening results we have seen at Silicon Dental Centre.

Before treatment you will always be seen by one of our dentists to make sure that having your teeth whitened is right for you. It is not a good idea to have your teeth whitened if you have existing dental problems because the whitening agent can aggravate any cavity or gum problems.
The treatment has a long term impact on lightening the colour of your teeth but they will not be immune to the same disclouring as they previously suffered. Stains build up on your teeth from everyday living.Tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and spicy foods can all dull your teeth’s natural colour. To maintain the impact of the treatment it is advisable to brush your teeth more frequently.
